OUR HISTORY

Following the direction of God's Holy Spirit, the New Samaritan Baptist Church was founded on July 14, 1961 under the leadership of the late Rev. J. S. Gordon.  The first worship services were held at the  home of Rev. and Mrs. Gordon.  Shortly thereafter, Manigault-Hurley Funeral Home opened its doors to the congregation in order to carry out workship services.

During this period, the official boards were organized.  The late Ezekiel Moten was named as Chairman of the Deacon Board.  Other deacons were the late Ellis Dunbar, McNeal Moten, and Ernest Coleman.  The Chairman of the Trustee Board was the late D. C. Wooden, with the late Leon Felder, John Alexander, and A. Weeden serving as trustees.  The Musical Choir, Jubilee Choir, and Usher Board were also organized.

The congregation left the Manigault-Hurley Funeral Home in June of 1962 to worship jointly with Gill Creek Baptist Church.  In the fall of 1962, provisions were made to worship at Macedonia Baptist Church with the late Rev. Kennedy.  With increasing membership, the decision was made to purchase Macedonia.  Under the leadership of Rev. Gordon, the church experienced tremendous growth and many building improvements were made, including the addition of a kitchen/fellowship hall.

After the death of Rev. Gordon, Rev. Thomas J. Allen was called as pastor in 1972.  Rev. Allen served until January of 2000.  At that time Rev. Jason Sutton became the pastor and he served for two years.  At his departure, Rev. Eulia C. Gadson served as the Interim Pastor until October of 2003.  Rev. Chester T. Gray was named the pastor.  Rev. Gray served as pastor for 10 years.  Rev. Veronica H. Bailey has been the pastor since October of 2014.

God has blessed the church with eleven active ministries in order to serve the congregation and the community.

The church's motto is: "Love is as love does".
